MCOM 58 - Intermediate KCRH Radio Experience
MCOM 58 provides intermediate, hands-on experience in KCRH-FM operations. Students develop skills in on-air equipment operation and troubleshooting, radio programming, music automation, audio production, promotions, news, live sports, underwriting sales, and the departmental structure used to run a radio station.
Students are on air in every course in KCRH’s five-course sequence. MCOM 58 is the fourth course, where students take on more independent on-air and station responsibilities.

3 total units: 2 lecture units (36 hours) and 1 lab unit (72 total lab hours). In a full-term section, students should plan for about two lecture hours and four lab hours per week, plus approximately 72 hours of assignments and practice outside class over the term.
Lab and on-air shifts
On-air shifts are assigned in two-hour blocks. Students are expected to complete at least one shift each week. Station hours follow Chabot College’s hours of operation.
What you’ll do
Operate and troubleshoot on-air equipment, program shows, use music-automation and digital audio-production tools, maintain required station logs, and contribute to KCRH departments. Students also practice DJing and hosting, produce liners and public service announcements, participate in promotions and live remote broadcasts, and create content for streaming platforms.
Good to know
Prerequisite: MCOM 57: KCRH Radio Leadership Experience with a grade of C or higher. MCOM 58 is letter-grade only and CSU-transferable. After completing MCOM 58, students can continue to MCOM 59: Advanced KCRH Radio Experience.
