MCOM 57 - KCRH Radio Leadership Experience
MCOM 57 combines hands-on station leadership with continued development of broadcast and production skills. Students learn to organize station responsibilities, maintain logs, explain KCRH operations, and mentor newer students.
Students are on air in every course in KCRH’s five-course sequence. MCOM 57 is the third course, where students continue their on-air work while taking on department leadership and mentoring responsibilities.

3 total units: 2 lecture units and 1 laboratory unit. Over a full term, students complete 36 lecture hours and 72 hands-on lab hours—about two lecture hours and four lab hours each week. Students should also plan for approximately 72 hours of coursework outside class during the term.
Lab and on-air shifts
On-air shifts are assigned in two-hour blocks. Students are expected to complete at least one shift each week. Station hours follow Chabot College’s hours of operation.
What you’ll do
Students lead station departments, plan meetings, organize responsibilities, maintain station logs, explain KCRH operations, and mentor newer students. Practical work includes on-air shifts and builds experience in programming, music rotation, studio equipment, audio production, promotions, news, live sports, underwriting, remote broadcasts, and web streaming.
Good to know
Prerequisite: MCOM 56: Introduction to KCRH Radio Experience with a grade of C or higher. After completing MCOM 57, students can continue to MCOM 58: Intermediate KCRH Radio Experience.
